Introducing the 2024 Social Accountability Fellows in Nasarawa State

The Social Accountability Fellowship (SAF) is an innovative program under the Strengthening Participation, Accountability, and Transparency in States (SPATS) project supported through the WYDE Civic Engagement Project by the Kofi Annan Foundation (KAF); European Partnership for Democracy (EPD); Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD); the Oslo Center and funded by the European Union (EU).

This fellowship empowers 13 emerging leaders from each local government council in Nasarawa State. Over two months, they will undergo intensive training and collaborate with experts to drive accountability, transparency, and citizen participation in governance.

As part of the fellowship, PROMAD will conduct a Human-Centred Design Lab to gather valuable insights from the fellows and local stakeholders on the design of a future Civic Tech Platform (https://grap.org.ng/). This research will help us tailor the platform to meet the specific needs of Nasarawa State, enhancing citizen engagement in tracking public budget spending.

The final phase of the SPATS project will focus on advocacy and partnerships with state agencies, including ministries and lawmakers, to strengthen social accountability and improve the delivery of capital projects across Nasarawa State.
